Your DRO will not prevent a bailiff from taking and selling your items if you’ve reached a payment agreement with them, such as a controlled goods agreement. If you wish to keep these items, you must continue to make the payments you’ve agreed to.

Debts that are not included

Some debts are exempt from the £30,000 maximum, although they must still be listed in the DRO application. This implies you’re still responsible for paying off your debts in full. You are not permitted to include:fines imposed by magistrates’ courts; payments and arrears owed to the Child Support Agency (CSA) and the Child Maintenance Service (CMS); student loans; budgeting and crisis loans; money owed under a ‘criminal confiscation order’; and debts incurred as a result of certain personal injury claims filed against you.

Who is it for?

If you owe less than $50,000 in unsecured debt, you can receive a DRO.

You must not be able to pay off those bills right now, but you should be able to make some payments on them over time.
