How to draw Santa Claus – let’s get formed!
Step 1
If you can’t freehand draw a perfect circle, don’t worry! You can always use a compass, a tool that helps you draw a perfect circle quickly and effortlessly. To ensure the outline is positioned correctly in the middle, draw a horizontal and a vertical line across the paper to create reference lines. The vertical line further the horizontal line is where you should draw the process.
Step 2
Draw a half circle shape on each side of the face outline. This describes the ears of Santa Claus. Make sure the ears are identical and drawn within the same level. You can also use reference lines on the face to ensure the ears line up.
Step 3
Just above Santa’s leader, draw a Christmas hat, as shown in the picture. In the middle of the face, draw a curved line for the nose with a mustache below it. Then, on the lower part of the face, create a long, stubbled beard by drawing continuous curved lines to make the beard look thick and fluffy.
Step 4
Draw Santa’s upper body below the beard.
Santa Claus is naturally beefier, so make sure you make the body chubby.
step 5
Create the hem of the jacket Santa Claus is wearing by drawing a rectangular contour following the border of the clothing.
Step 6
Draw two diagonal lines slanting towards each other for each leg. The shape of the legs should be wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. Then draw a fist at the bottom of each leg. Try to keep your legs aligned and in proportion.
step 7
Draw a broad belt in the center of the torso. Then draw the shoes below the cuff on each leg.
step 8
To create Santa’s arms, draw two diagonal lines on each side of the torso with a fist at the bottom. Next, draw the hands with a pair of gloves under the cuff. As you can see in the illustration, Santa’s arms are raised. You can draw the arms in the same place or position the arms however you like.
step 9
Now that we have finished drawing the entire body of Santa, it is time to draw the facial features to add an expression to Santa’s face. Begin by outlining his thick eyebrows. Then, just below the eyebrows, draw two small ovals for the eyes. Shade the eyes leaving a small point without shading. Don’t forget to draw a side oval on each cheek to create a blush effect. Here you can see that the drawing of Santa Claus is almost finished! The only thing missing is a dash of various colors to complete your work of art!
Finally, filling in the colors for your amazing drawing is the most exciting part! This is where you can show off your artistic skills and ability to mix and match various colors. Santa’s hair, mustache, and beard are as white as snow. His hair color is believed not a result of his old age but lacks pigmentation, making it translucent. He also often wears a red Christmas outfit trimmed with white hair.
Feel free to color your Santa drawing any color you like and watch your drawing finally come to life! And while at it, why not try experimenting with different coloring materials, like watercolors and markers?
